Air Conditioner Problems
March 6, 2009
The story is as follows regarding our recent air conditioner problems:
- When we accomplished the test acceptance flight in Sao Jose dos Campos, I squawked the air-conditioner. It was not pumping out any cold air. They replaced it.
- 30 minutes out of the factory on our way to Palmas, we lost it again. Checked the status page for the system and it showed that it had completely failed.
- When we hit Ft. Lauderdale the gang there replaced the pump again but said it was marginal. I confirmed, not much cold air coming out.
- Stopped in Mesa, AZ where they trouble shot the system and replaced it again. Still nothing. Michael Valech rode with us to Las Vegas to confirm operation or lack of and trouble shooting. After reviewing all of the info and the procedures that everyone has accomplished it was decided that the complete system needed to be replaced. That the lines and system had been contaminated when the 1st unit failed @ the factory. So, every subsequent compressor failed after that because of fouled lines and junk in the system.
- In Ft .Lauderdale now. The crew and the manufacturer are replacing the complete system and heat exchanger. They also flushed all of the lines with nitrogen. They blew out tons of junk, silver/black fluid, o-rings etc. The job will be completed today and ready for the testing. I am confident that they have it all figured out now. Looking forward to having a working AC unit!
Let it be known, that both Embraer Facilities, Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Mesa, AZ did an excellent job. They were very professional, courteous and met our every need. Everyone must remember that the Phenom is a brand new design and we have an early serial number. There will be a bit of a learning curve associated with the aircraft until there are procedures in place and past experience with problems that arise.
The Phenom is an excellent aircraft. We have flown ours 45 hours already and will have about 75 hours on the bird when we hit Las Vegas the end of next week. I will keep you posted on how things are progressing.
Once again, thanks to all of the maintenance personal and managers for the excellent care and service.
